The AlZatari family descends from Jari bin Abdul Mohsen bin Mohisen bin Thabet bin Muharib AlZatari. He was well known in the Dasman area and its surroundings as Jari bin Mohisen (pronounced "Yeri" as the Arabic letter "J" was often pronounced as "Y"). He was born in Kuwait in 1874 (1292 AH) during the rule of Sheikh Abdullah II Al-Sabah, who governed Kuwait from 1866 to 1891 (1283–1309 AH). Jari worked under Sheikh Khaz’al bin Jabir following instructions from Sheikh Mubarak AlSabah, who highly regarded him for his wisdom, courage, horsemanship, loyalty, and integrity, as well as his fluency in multiple languages. Jari settled in Sheikh Khaz’al’s palace in the Dasman area after it was built. This palace was constructed on land gifted by Sheikh Mubarak AlSabah to Sheikh Khaz’al, reflecting their strong friendship. The palace was located near Sheikh Mubarak AlSabah’s residence and consisted of two large villas—one for living and the other as a reception hall for Sheikhs, dignitaries, and guests. The reception hall was known as the "Qasr Al-Barani" (Outer Palace).
Jari bin Mohisen's Role and Trust with Sheikh Khaz’al. Sheikh Khaz’al entrusted Jari bin Mohisen with the management of his palaces, the command of his guards and personal protectors, and the supervision of his household staff. He was also given responsibility for all of Sheikh Khaz’al’s immovable properties in Kuwait. Sheikh Khaz’al shared the progressive and liberal lifestyle that was common among sheikhs and rulers at the time, which allowed Jari to gain his full trust and take on these important responsibilities. As a token of loyalty and dedication, Sheikh Khaz’al gifted Jari a plot of land in Kuwait from his own property. This gift was granted in Shawwal 1334 AH, seven months after the passing of Sheikh Mubarak AlSabah, the ruler of Kuwait. The land was located near Sheikh Khaz’al’s palace.
After Jari bin Mohisen passed away in 1942, the family moved to the Sharq area, specifically to Fereej AlQudayb, after previously residing in Dasman.

The name "Jari" means bravery and courage. Its pronunciation varies depending on the dialect. In the Gulf dialect, "Jari" is derived from the word "Jaree’" (which means bold or courageous). In the Kuwaiti dialect, "Jari" is pronounced as "Yeri".
